Now that it's 2018, I am expecting we all know who this incredible band are. If not, I suggest you go your own way (see what I did there) and hit your head against a wall, do some research and then come back to me.
The Drama
As we all SHOULD know, Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band who originally formed in London UK in the late 1960's. To this day, the band has sold over 100 million records worldwide which, rightfully, makes the one of the world's most best selling bands. Original band members included Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. Later that year, Christine Perfect and Danny Kirwan joined the band which lead to Christine later marrying John Mcvie in 1970. Unfortunately, problems arose leading to Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer (both guitarists) leaving the band. They were then replaced by Bob Welch and Bob Weston, they both didn't last very long as they both left by 1974 leaving the band without a lead vocalist and lead guitarist. Therefore, Fleetwood began searching for members in LA which was when he found a duo, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Lindsey then became their need guitarist on the condition that Stevie could also join the band (cute right?).
The addition of the two new members really helped Fleetwood Mac find their folk-rock sound in their self titled album 'Fleetwood Mac' which reached No 1 in the states. Their second album 'Rumours' was a hit! The album featured for singles which reached the top 10 in the states. The album also stayed in the American album charts for over 30 weeks as well as reaching top spots in other countries around the globe! Overall, 'Rumours' sold over 40 million copies around the globe.
Despite the success of this album, the band experienced some personal drama due to both John and Christine and Stevie and Lindsey splitting up. However, they managed to get past this and continued to make music together (thank god).
After 3 more albums, the band started to get rocky. Lindsey was the first member to leave the group who was then followed by Stevie in 1991. They were both replaced by short term musicians. However, all 5 members came together again in 1993 for a special performance for Bill Clinton as well as a reunion in 1997. In 1998, Christine retired from touring which left the band with only 4 members (John, Mick, Lindsey and Stevie) however, Christine decided to re-join the band in 2014. Lindsey was then fired from the band in 2017 and replaced by Mike Campbell (so much drama right?).
As you can tell by the name of this blog ('Songbird' is a track out of their 'Rumours' album), I am deeply in love with Fleetwood Mac's music. Unfortunately , I have not seen them live but give me time reader, give me time. Below I have linked my favourite tracks of there's.
I agree with Alisha, I have not listened to them recently, but your favourites are class!
